This term for inquiry we have been learning all about water. Watch our movie below to see some of the questions we had about water before we started our topic and the answers we found to them.

Robyn Belton

Today we were lucky enough to have Robyn Belton visit our school.  She illustrates the famous books about Greedy Cat and other books like Herbert the Brave Sea Dog.  She even drew us a picture of Greedy Cat. Here are some of the stories that we wrote about her visit.

Robyn Belton came to our school.  She wrote the Greedy Cat stories.  She showed us about when Herbert fell off the boat.  We had to answer her questions about Greedy Cat and Herbert.  I wonder why she does that?  She is a good drawer.  By Grace

Printmaking

This term in art we have been learning all about print making.  So far we have made prints of leaves, bubbles and feathers.  We also made prints using our fingers.

Water Cycle Song

The last two weeks we have been singing this neat song about the water cycle.  We thought you might like to watch it too.
This term we are learning to write descriptions.

We know that we have achieved this when we include:
- Who
- What they look like
- What they like or don't like
- How we feel about them.

This week we wrote descriptions about our Mum or Dad.

Room 12A opening

Today was a very special day at Nelson Central School.  Today we opened a brand new classroom; Room 12 A!   Five new students who will be in the class helped Lynley their teacher cut the ribbon. Later on in the day Sally let us have a look through the new classroom.   The new classroom is right next to our class so we have been able to watch its progress closely.  We especially enjoyed when the digger was there digging holes.  Sally thinks we have done very well concentrating on our work whilst they have been building because some days there was lots of noise from skill saws and hammers! We just hope that not too many people get muddled up between Room 12 and Room 12A!

Robin

Today we sadly farewelled Robin.  He is moving back to Germany with his family.  We had a little party for him at the end of the day.  Robin's Mum made muffins in ice-cream cones which we thought was very cool as none of us had had it before.  We wish you all the best for settling back to life in Germany Robin.

Maitai Dam

Today we visited the Maitai dam as part of our inquiry unit on water. We walked up to the top of the dam and looked at where all the water is stored. Nelson hasn't had much rain lately so unfortuantly there was no water going down the steep spillway. After that we went down into the tunnel below the dam and saw some of the big pipes that the water moves through.  Click on buttons below to listen to some of our thoughts from our visit.
